The Application Process & more Waiting
So, I've always been dreaming about living abroad, and I've always loved to travel. Over the past couple of months, I've come to the conclusion that I am going to study abroad next year, my junior year, in Spain. It took me awhile to find the right program, but with some googling and lots of time on the computer I settled with Intrax Study Abroad. So far, so good. I started talking to kids both alumni of the Intrax program or kids who are abroad now, some in Sweden and some in Spain. Everything I hear has been "Best decision of my life!" or "You won't regret this!" or "Go for the year, not the semester!" or something along those lines. So, taking their advice, I decided to apply for the academic year program to Spain. The online application was simple, and after that was over I started filling out paperwork for Intrax, the partner study abroad program in Spain, Interhispania, and for the health insurance company. I had my phone interview with Joe Roma, the program's director, and now the waiting begins. I've been told that I was accepted into the program, and got my official t-shirt and other knickknacks in the mail. Intrax is now looking for my best-fit host family for me to live with for the 9 months of September 2009 until June 2010. After my host family is selected, I have to begin the process of applying for a student visa, which means I'll be spending a lot of time in Washington D.C. at the Spanish consulate - and a lot more waiting. My departure date is September 18th. It's hard to believe that these last 2 weeks of school this year will be my last days in an American high school for over a year!
