And, I have the one Spanish friend. Friday night was a lot of fun. There was this fair thing at her school called "Salon Manga" and we met up there and chatted, walked around, headed over to El Corte Inglés, and stuff like that. It was great to meet her and her friends, practice Spanish, and it's just nice to be around her because she was an exchange student in the US last year so she knows how I feel and is really helpful with teaching me Spanish.
Saturday I met up with Chelsea and Sammie, 2 Canadian girls living in Jerez de la Frontera. We took the train all the way into the old part of Cádiz. We walked around a bit and went to the Ben & Jerry's and we each got a crepe sundae...SO GOOD! It was a crepe with chocolate sauce with a scoop of any flavor ice cream. I got mine with strawberry cheesecake of course. Then we went to the beach at La Caleta and swam for a bit..it was Sammie's first time in the ocean! Then we saw this little seaside cafe place for lunch and we ran into Nate and Fannie and then hung out with them on the beach for a little bit. After awhile Chelsea and Sammie went back to Jerez (about 30 min away) and Nate, Fannie and I stayed out and hung out and watch the sunset on the beach.
( I was trying to upload some pictures but it's not working )
Sunday we decided to go explore some more. Nate and I met and had some lunch then caught the bus to Chiclana, a town we'd heard about that's maybe 45 minutes away. We got there and didn't really know what to do so we look at a map and decide to go a little further down to this little town called Sancti Petri. He has his iPod Touch so we use it to get directions to the bus station that will take us to Sancti Petri. We end up walking for about an hour and it was so hot..once we finally got to the bus stop we see that the bus to Sancti Petri doesn't run on Sundays. So we find the nearest restaurant to get some drinks. It was only a little while away from the bus stop, and we walk in and were greeted with "Hello!" I didn't think much of it...but then we go in and everyone's speaking in English! The menus and everything..all in English. The owners were from Scotland and England and were really nice and called us a taxi to take us to Sancti Petri where Fannie was already waiting for us (she was smart and took the taxi from the beginning.)
We get there and it's absolutely gorgeous. It's a beach resort town that was full of Germans on vacation it seemed like. We didn't have our suits (besides Fannie, she came prepared) but we went swimming anyways. After awhile we take a taxi back to Chiclana after pretending to be guests at this fancy hotel. We catch our separate buses home, the 2 of them to Cádiz and mine to San Fernando-Bahia Sur. I Skyped with my family and went to bed.
Monday I had 3 classes then Rocio, my local coordinator, picked up me and Katherine who's the other American girl at my school. We walked around Cádiz to get all the other exchange students staying for over 90 days because we had to get our visas stamped or something like that. After that we didn't have to go back to school so Fannie and I went to a cool Italian place for lunch and then walked to El Corte Inglés to shop a little. I bought a dress and when I came out of the dressing room to show her, we spot Nathan, the boy on our program from Brazil! We talked with him for awhile, I bought the dress, and then met up with an Italian exchange student along with a German girl and an American girl who I had met in Barcelona. They were gonna go to the beach but the weather wasn't perfect for the beach so I caught the bus home.
Other updates:
- I'm still trying to switch schools. Rocio is trying to see if I can switch to a public school in San Fernando.
- I didn't go to school today, I had a major headache and am sad because Tripp might not be coming to Botswana after all..
- Later this evening I'm supposed to talk with a guy from the company InterHispania about switching schools.
- After that I'm trying to meet up with Fannie and Nate to have a picnic on the beach between San Fernando and Cádiz because that beach is always less crowded than the others and the waves are bigger.
- Tomorrow I don't have school! There's a festival in Cádiz, celebrating the region's Virgin, Pilar. (I think it's Pilar.) I'm probably gonna hang out with Fannie and Nate haha.
- I was invited to spend the weekend up in Zaragoza with India, a good friend from Intrax, because there's a huge festival up there, but things are too crazy with the move and trying to switch schools so I'm not gonna bother asking the company.
- Monday I don't have school either! I'm not really sure why, but I'm not complaining.
That's it for now...Dad leaves for Botswana in about a week I think, Adam's loving school down there besides his uniform and his strict teachers and Mom started work there yesterday. I'm excited to get down there after hearing about all the animal sightings and Mom and Adam making lemonade with the lemons from the lemontrees in the back yard. I'm gonna have fun these next 2 years..
